Improving instruction in College Algebra by fostering a growth mindset - Mr. Juan Arrellano (Team Leader).

This team was awarded a 2025 Presidential Innovation Award.

The Improving Math Instruction Initiative (IMI^2) supports faculty in addressing challenges in teaching College Algebra through a series of professional development workshops. These workshops promote research-based strategies to enhance instruction, improve student retention, increase student success, and create a positive learning environment. Emphasizing active learning, the workshops feature engaging, imaginative, and creative tasks that nurture a growth mindset and provide opportunities for students to deepen their understanding through perseverance in solving rich mathematical tasks.
