All posters must be submitted in PowerPoint/PDF format by Wednesday, April 15th (instructions will be provided upon acceptance of your abstract) to ensure timely printing. Failure to meet this deadline may result in automatic disqualification from presenting, or you may need to arrange printing at your own expense.
Posters must measure 36 inches on one side (either width or height), with the other dimension ranging from 44 to 48 inches. These dimensions ensure smooth and compatible printing at the TAMIU CEES facility.
- Organize your poster sections in a logical, easy-to-follow order. A common approach is a column layout, allowing viewers to read from top to bottom and left to right. Ensure there is enough white space and avoid overcrowding.
- Text should be readable from a distance of at least 4 feet. The title should be larger than the body text, and a clear font such as Arial or Helvetica or Apotos. Suggested font sizes for accessibility:
- Title: 158-point (minimum 72-point)
- Section headers: 56-point (minimum 46-point)
- Body text: 36-point (minimum 24-point)
- Posters should encourage discussion, rather than serve as a long lecture. Keep text concise, prioritize graphics, and include only essential content.
- Plan to discuss your poster for 5–7 minutes per visitor or judge, followed by about 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
- Avoid standing directly in front of your poster so that others can see it clearly. Position yourself to the side while presenting.
- Do not use computers, note cards, or other electronic aids during your poster presentation. Practice your pitch!
Posters will be evaluated by our judges based on the following criteria to determine the competition winners:
- Statement of Research Question – The research question is clearly articulated and placed in context with the broader scientific or scholarly background. Judges will look for clarity, relevance, and significance of the question.
- Methodology – The methods and techniques used are appropriate for the research question and applied correctly. Judges may inquire about the rationale behind the choice of methods or techniques.
- Results – Data and findings are presented logically, clearly, and concisely. Visual representation of results should enhance understanding.
- Conclusions, Future Directions, and References – Conclusions are well-supported by the results, emphasizing the significance and potential implications of the study. Where appropriate, future research directions and references are included.
- Overall Presentation – The poster is visually appealing, well-organized, and free of errors. Graphics, photographs, charts, and text are clear, professional, and effectively support the communication of research.
