Graduate Research Showcase 2026

The Graduate Research Showcase highlights the breadth and depth of research conducted by TAMIU graduate students across all disciplines and offers opportunities for cross-disciplinary networking.

The event will feature a research poster presentation session with a competition, and the top three presenters will be recognized with awards. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

How to Participate:

Interested graduate students must complete the registration form, with approval from their research mentor, thesis advisor, or equivalent, to be considered for participation. Students from all graduate programs are welcome. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Poster Categories:

  • Category A: Research In-Progress or Completed Research – Posters in this category present work that is underway or has been completed. These entries are eligible for the poster competition.
  • Category B: Research Proposals – Posters in this category present research that is in the early stages or has not yet begun, with minimal data available. Focus on clearly articulating the research background, hypothesis, research question/s, theoretical framework, methodology, and potential significance. Note: Research proposal posters are not eligible for the competition.

Required Information for Registration:

  • Your academic information
  • Tentative Poster Title
  • Abstract (250-300 words)

For questions regarding registration, please contact Ms. Elisa Saldivar (COAS GSA President) or Ms. Vanessa Plascencia (COAS GSA Vice President) at coas.gsa@gmail.com

All posters must be submitted in PowerPoint/PDF format by Wednesday, April 15th (instructions will be provided upon acceptance of your abstract) to ensure timely printing. Failure to meet this deadline may result in automatic disqualification from presenting, or you may need to arrange printing at your own expense.

Posters must measure 36 inches on one side (either width or height), with the other dimension ranging from 44 to 48 inches. These dimensions ensure smooth and compatible printing at the TAMIU CEES facility.

  • Organize your poster sections in a logical, easy-to-follow order. A common approach is a column layout, allowing viewers to read from top to bottom and left to right. Ensure there is enough white space and avoid overcrowding.
  • Text should be readable from a distance of at least 4 feet. The title should be larger than the body text, and a clear font such as Arial or Helvetica or Apotos. Suggested font sizes for accessibility:
    • Title: 158-point (minimum 72-point)
    • Section headers: 56-point (minimum 46-point)
    • Body text: 36-point (minimum 24-point)
  • Posters should encourage discussion, rather than serve as a long lecture. Keep text concise, prioritize graphics, and include only essential content.
Want to see examples? Take a walk through both the left and right wings on the third floor of the LBV building - there are many research posters on display, so you can create your own self-guided poster tour!
  • Plan to discuss your poster for 5–7 minutes per visitor or judge, followed by about 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
  • Avoid standing directly in front of your poster so that others can see it clearly. Position yourself to the side while presenting.
  • Do not use computers, note cards, or other electronic aids during your poster presentation. Practice your pitch!

Posters will be evaluated by our judges based on the following criteria to determine the competition winners:

  1. Statement of Research Question – The research question is clearly articulated and placed in context with the broader scientific or scholarly background. Judges will look for clarity, relevance, and significance of the question.
  2. Methodology – The methods and techniques used are appropriate for the research question and applied correctly. Judges may inquire about the rationale behind the choice of methods or techniques.
  3. Results – Data and findings are presented logically, clearly, and concisely. Visual representation of results should enhance understanding.
  4. Conclusions, Future Directions, and References – Conclusions are well-supported by the results, emphasizing the significance and potential implications of the study. Where appropriate, future research directions and references are included.
  5. Overall Presentation – The poster is visually appealing, well-organized, and free of errors. Graphics, photographs, charts, and text are clear, professional, and effectively support the communication of research.
