Follow these steps to find internship opportunities that match your interests and preferred location on Handshake.

Step 1

Tip: Complete your profile to be seen by employers!

Step 2:

Select the Internship filter located towards the mid-right center of the page.

This will narrow your search results to internship opportunities only and removes full-time and part-time positions from your search.

Step 3:

Set your preferred location

1. Enter a city, state, or ZIP code (e.g. Laredo, Texas)
2. Select the location from the dropdown list
3. Adjust the search radius using the slider
   1. Smaller radius = opportunities closer to your location
   2. Larger radius = opportunities within a broader area

Tip: Use additional filters to refine your search. Click "Filters" on the right corner to select job type, industry, employer preferences, remote opportunities, and paid internship criteria. The more filters you apply, the more targeted your result will be.

Step 4:

Review internship listings with your filters

• Browse internships posting on the left panel 
• Click on any internship title to view details 
• Review qualifications, responsibilities, application deadlines, and compensation information 

Tip: If you find an internship you're interested in but are not ready to apply, you can save it for later! 

• Click the Save button
• Internship information will be stored in your Saved Jobs section for future review

Step 5: 

Apply! 

When you're ready: 

• Click the Apply button
• Follow the employer's application instructions
• Upload any required documents, such as your resume and cover letter 

Pro tip: 

Create a Job Alert in Handshake after applying your filters. Handshake will automatically notify you when new internship matching your criteria are posted. 

Recommended search set up for TAMIU students: 

• Job Type: Internship
• Location: Laredo, Texas (or preferred city) 
• Radius: 25-50 miles
• Additional filters: Paid internship, remote (if desired)
