Military in Texas Waiver

All active duty, veterans, and reservists are eligible for a waiver of non-resident tuition per TEC 54.241. Please see below for the requirements of each.

Please email the Intent to Establish Residency Form along with other required documents to veterans@tamiu.edu if the student will not be using Veteran benefits and will only be utilizing the non-resident tuition waiver.

  • For Veterans – please complete the Intent to Establish Residency Form and submit with a copy of the Certificate of Eligibility for VA benefits. A student does not have to use VA benefits to receive a waiver. The Veterans Affairs Office just needs proof that the student is eligible to receive benefits.

A student does not have to use VA benefits to receive a waiver. The Veterans Affairs Office just needs proof that the veteran or dependent is eligible to receive benefits.

The Military in Texas waiver is a waiver of non-resident tuition. It does not change a student’s residency status. The waiver will exempt the non-resident tuition.
