Admission Requirements
Minimum Admission Secondary GPA = 2.75 (Institutional, Transfer, Overall)
- Institutional GPA: Your GPA at TAMIU
- Transfer GPA: Your GPA from any classes you've taken at other institutions
- Overall GPA: Your combined GPA for both Institutional and Transfer GPAs
- Secondary GPA: Your GPA if your concentration is 7th - 12th certification or All-Level Certification
- Note: All GPAs must be at the 2.75 minimum for admission. Please see your advisor if you have GPA concerns.
Complete your University Core Curriculum (see Degree Works). All courses must be completed with a "C" or better.
- Successfully complete EDCI 1102, EDCI 2224/1301, and EDCI 3200 (Complete each with a "C" or better)
- Follow the course sequences as per your catalog. Your advisor can guide you on the classes to take each semester.
- Note: Avoid having a large number of "C" grades in courses deemed important to your certificate (typically 6 or more).
I Have Been Advised and Registered
Have I already been admitted to the College of Education?
- Registration for EDCI 3301 and other upper-division College of Education courses Does Not guarantee admission to the College of Education. You must submit an application and be accepted.
- Once you have applied and after you have completed all pre-requisite coursework, your application will be evaluated.
- If you are offered admission to the College of Education, you will receive a formal Offer to Admission letter that you must sign and return. Your signed letter must be on file in order to admit you to the state teaching certificate program for which you applied.
- If you are not admitted to the College of Education for any reason, we will contact you, and you will be dropped from any upper-division College of Education coursework you have been registered for.
- If you are not admitted, you may be reconsidered for admission in the next long spring or Fall. semester. We keep applications of those not admitted for a period of 1 year.
Documents to Complete and Submit
Important: If you are accepted, an Offer of Admission Letter will be sent to you via your student email.
- Applications for Fall (August) Admission
- Notices sent during the Summer (June/July)
- Applications for Spring (January) Admission:
- Notices sent in Winter (December/January)
- Note: If you apply in the Summer, you will be considered for admission for the Fall Semester.
You must return your signed offer letter by the due date on the letter to be formally accepted into the College of Education.
Completing the Application
- Contact the College of Education for any application documents.
- Save the application documents to your device.
- Rename each document with Your Name in the file name
- Ex: DustyDustdevil - College of Education Application
- Begin completing the fillable PDF.
- You may also print it and complete it in ink.
- Complete the top section with your personal information
- Note: Undergraduate degree, see the table for majors/concentrations. Please confirm that your application matches what is listed on your DegreeWorks. If you would like to change your concentration, please see your advisor and admissions coordinator.
- Read each bullet point in the Undergraduate section.
- Initial each line in the Undergraduate section to indicate that you have met each requirement.
- Contact the College of Education for any questions, comments, or concerns.
- Sign the Application.

Completing the Code of Ethics
- To complete the code of ethics, read each bullet point and initial on every line of the first three pages of the code of ethics to indicate that you agree to uphold the professional and ethical conduct expected of teachers.
- Complete, sign and date the last page of the code of ethics. Sign the code of ethics as you did the application by placing your signature on the signature line.
- Save the code of ethics document with your name in the file name.

How to Submit Your Application Documents
Once you have completed all of your forms, you must submit them:
- Attach to an email all three completed and sign forms, saved with your name.
- Send one email with all three forms to: COEDAcceptance@tamiu.edu.
- Subject Line: Your Name, College of Education Application
- Body of Email: Your Name, Indicate whether you have or have not completed the Screening Instrument.
- Send one email with all three forms to: COEDAcceptance@tamiu.edu.
Screening Instrument
The College of Education Screening Instrument is an online form that you must fill out as a part of your admissions application.
It contains questions about your educational background, your experiences working with children, and so on. Please read carefully and answer all questions to the best of your ability.
Note: Your answers to the Screening Instrument will not automatically disqualify you from being admitted. If you do not have experience working directly with children, please indicate this and share other experiences you might have that are appropriate.

Desired Certificates:
Select the certification areas that best match your major/certification area.
- Ex: Elementary Education major with a Bilingual emphasis will choose four:
- Elementary Core Subjects EC-6
- Elementary BTLPT
- Elementary BES
- Elementary PPR
Fill out all sections with an asterisk(s) to the best of your ability.
Program Section:
Bilingual, Special Education, Early Learning, ESL Majors:
- Select "Elementary Education"
Secondary (7-12) or All-Level (K-12) Certification Majors:
- Select "Secondary Education"
Select ACP or MAT options.
Assessments:
If you did not take any assessments or if you do not know your scores, you may leave them blank
You may find your scores on Uconnect.
Professional Background:
If you have ever been formally admitted to any Educator Preparation Program (from another university or program, such as Texas Teachers) and have been assigned a Texas Education Agency (TEA) ID, please indicate it on the form.
If you are being re-admitted to the College of Education after previously dropping out, please answer 'yes' on the form.
Remaining Questions:
Answer the remaining questions to the best of your ability.
- Do not copy any part of the sample responses (if shown).
Submitting the Screening Instrument:
When you submit your screening instrument, the College of Education receives it automatically. You will also receive a confirmation email that you have submitted the screening instrument.
The College of Education will add the screening instrument to your file for evaluation with your application and academic information.
After we have received all of your application documents, the screening instrument, and you have completed all the prerequisite coursework, we will begin evaluating your application.
College of Education Admission Fees from the Texas Education Agency
If you accept admission to the College of Education and you remain enrolled in upper-division College of Education coursework past the 12th class day of your admission semester, you will be charged a $35 Texas Education Agency fee.
- This fee is put in place by the Texas Education Agency, and Texas A&M International University does not keep this money.
- This fee will be charged to your student account.
If you drop out of the College of Education and want to be re-admitted later, you will need to reapply for admission. You will be charged the Texas Education Agency fee each time you are admitted to an educator preparation program.
