Benefits

UHURP students have the following benefits to enhance their academic career at TAMIU!

Priority Registration

UHURP students have priority registration, on the first two days of registration, allowing them to select preferred courses

Conference Travel Funds

UHURP has stipends for conferences for Honors students to present their thesis or research work

Great Plains Honors Council

UHURP is a member of the GPHC, which is a regional council on Honors programs. Each spring, GPHC hosts a student-focused conference at a university within the council. UHURP will offer select students an opportunity to present at the conference, all expenses paid!

Google Career Micro Credentials

UHURP students can enroll in any of the Google Career Certificate Micro Credentialing courses to enhance your skills.

LEARN Expo Participation

UHURP students will have the opportunity to present their projects during the LEARN Expo in November and/or April to share how their hands-on learning experience has enhanced their academic journey.

Undergraduate Research Day

Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol is hosted every two years and showcases the work of undergraduate students engaged in research for Texas legislators and the public through high-quality poster displays. This event highlights how research conducted by undergraduates positively impacts Texas – and Texans – across the state. One student (or group) will be selected to represent TAMIU; all expenses paid!

Graduation Distinction

UHURP members are honored with a silver tassel, medallion, and silver cord during a special Honors Graduation Ceremony. The silver tassel is the only color, apart from black, that is allowed to be worn during commencement ceremonies.

Transcript Designation

Upon graduation, students will find an Honors Graduate distinction as part of their transcript, which is beneficial for graduate school and career applications.

TAMIU Graduate School Admissions

UHURP Graduates receive automatic admission to TAMIU Graduate School so long as their graduate program* aligns with their undergraduate degree.

*The following programs require an application: Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP) and Family Nurse Practitioner Program (FNP).
