Summer 2020 Updates

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak and keeping in mind the best interest of students, faculty, and staff, we have decided to move all orientations virtually for this summer. We recognize that this may be a disappointment for many of you. It is for us as well. We truly enjoying getting to know you all and seeing your smiling faces during your orientation sessions. Our hope is to provide as similar as an experience as you would have received during your traditional face-to-face orientation session as possible. During these virtual orientation sessions, you will spend the day interacting with your new Dustdevil family while experiencing a variety of sessions that will help you prepare for life at TAMIU. Orientation will still be held on your selected orientation date. More information regarding schedule and expectations will be sent to you closer to your selected date.

It is important that you continue to check your Dusty Email and frequently check our website for updates throughout the summer. This is an important first step in your success as a Dustdevil- maintaining contact with your professors and fulfilling requirements.

PARENT & FAMILY ORIENTATION

Coinciding with Dusty Camp, we will also be offering Virtual Parent and Family Orientation. This orientation will be available to parents and family as a self-paced orientation with opportunity to have attend a Live Q&A Session at any of our pre-established dates. All information related to Parent and Family Orientation is available on our website. Please have your parents and family members take advantage of this free and information service provided to them. We are hopeful to begin scheduling additional dates in Spanish and after hours soon.

We understand that being distant this summer for your Orientation session is not how you, nor our beloved university, wanted to start your collegiate experience. We will make the best of this experience and ensure that each of you develops your own unique TAMIU experience and story. We look forward to seeing you soon and showing you what it means to be a Dustdevil!

Dusty Camp will be span two days and Dustdevil Transition programming will be one day. The associated programming for both of these orientation sessions have been purposefully selected to adjust to being a Dustdevil and successfully navigating the structures and processes of the institution. The goal of orientation is to ensure incoming students are informed about necessary academic requirements, academic and campus-wide resources, how to get involved on campus and other information to help you successfully transition to TAMIU. Detailed information about Dusty Camp/Dustdevil Transition will be sent to students via your dusty.tamiu.edu email by late May.
Yes, we will have online orientation for Parent & Families. You can find more information about Family Orientation at https://www.tamiu.edu/sole/PFOrientation.shtml. Students participating in Dusty Camp/Dustdevil Transition orientation will be able to connect with other students during their sessions through fun virtual icebreakers and chats, and they will receive information for campus clubs and organizations they can join. They will also be interacting with Orientation Leaders, student leaders who will serve as your guide throughout this summer and into your first year. Additionally, throughout the summer, there will be available opportunities to connect with the incoming class through virtual engagement opportunities. More information on these virtual engagement opportunities will become available later this summer. Another available option to connect with other new students will be Welcome Week activities in the fall.
